4-H

Minnesota 4-H youth development offers age-appropriate, hands-on learning via short-and long-term projects and activities throughout Minnesota in urban, suburban and rural communities, including 4-H clubs, special-interest groups, after-school programs, volunteering, civic engagement, community service, camping, and school enrichment.

In 4-H, youth design and participate in their own programs and activities. This unique, learn-by-doing model teaches kids essential, transferable skills that they’ll use throughout their lives, such as problem solving, decision making, coping, communicating and responding to the needs of others.

Whether youth are building rockets, raising dairy cows, or writing musicals, 4-H gives them the skills they need to succeed in life.

In Brown County, there are eight community clubs located throughout the county where youth can experience all that 4-H has to offer them. Activities take place throughout the year where youth are allowed to learn more about their projects and develop life skills. The highlight of the year is the Brown County Fair. 4-H members are able to showcase the many projects that they have worked so hard on throughout the year. The projects are on display in the 4-H Building during the fair. Many 4-H members also have livestock projects on display in the three livestock barns. Check out the 4-H schedule of events to find out when 4-H events are happening during the fair.

A big fundraiser for the Brown County 4-H program is the 4-H Food Stand at the Brown County Fair. While visiting the fair, stop by the Food Stand for a fried hamburger or turkey supreme sandwich or another tasty item from the menu.

To request information about the Brown County 4-H program contact the Brown County Extension Office at 794-7993 or mnext-brown@umn.edu. You can learn more about the 4-H Program in Minnesota by going to:
